Beaten By The Weather.

What a big disappointment it was today, as my planned pelagic bird watching cruise from Weymouth to the Purbeck coastline, was cancelled just 10 minutes into our journey.

With a strong easterly gusting at around 32mph and a large swell it was felt that the trip would be too much for some of our passengers, and so it was that our boat "Coastal Vibes" turned around and headed back into harbour.

Fortunately the cruise, run by "Coastal Vibes Weymouth", will be rescheduled, and myself and the remaining birdwatchers will be given first offer for the next trip.

So having disembarked, I headed back home with a small diversion to Ferrymans Way, where I parked up here to watch the Little Terns which have returned to Chesil Beach this Spring. While I was watching the terns I also noted several Ringed Plovers running about on the sandflats here.

Here are a few photos and videos from this morning.

Weymouth Harbour

Coastal Vibes.

Looking back into the harbour.

Lots of seats on this boat.

Also tied up along the quayside is "HMC Vigilant" the British Border Security Boat. More on this vessel here.

Looking towards Nothe Fort.....

...........leaves the harbour behind and..............

...........into a bit of a swell and brisk easterly.

Unfortunately it was too rough to continue and so after 10 minutes we returned back to port.

The Fleet

An adult Little Tern on one of the mooring buoys in The Fleet here.

The buoys are filling up. Here is a presumed pair.

And another probable pair with one individual with a small fish as a gift.

Another Little Tern with a small fish

Two more Little Terns on another buoy

A few Little Terns on one of the sandbanks.

Here are a few.........

..........in flight

As my Granddaughter would say. 'Grandad I'm stuck'. A male.........

............Starling looking for food. A male, identifiable by the blue colouration at the base of the bill. With a female, the base would be pink.
