A Cool Bird

It was a trip to Portland Bill this afternoon, to see the long-staying Snow Bunting, which I believe was/is one of three seen here, or around the southern half of the island, over the past week or so.

Also in attendance was a female/juvenile Wheatear, which is pretty unusual at this time of year. Though of course Greenland Wheatears can sometimes be seen in early November.

Other Wheatears which can be seen in late Autumn here in the UK are Desert Wheatears and Isabelline Wheatears. However I think the tail pattern is incorrect for those two species, plus other features!

Ships today:

This is the Liberian Bulk Carrier "Thetis" on its way from Port Cartier, Canada to Weymouth Bay. It left Canada on: Oct 24, 17:38 UTC (10 days ago)  More on this vessel here.

A warship in Lyme Bay, but as to what it is and who it belongs to, is a mystery I'm afraid.
