Ibiza - 29 Sep 26 - Day 6

Santa Eulalia del Río by bus

This time we got the right bus for Santa Eulalia.

Below are a few photos and videos of our trip there today

Flathead Grey Mullet Mugil cephalus in the marina. AKA Striped Mullet

An Ibiza Wall Lizard Podarcis pityusensis on the wall of the sea defences here.

Nectaring on this Cape Leadwort Plumbago auriculata is a Hummingbird Hawk-moth Macroglossum stellatarum. Cape Leadwort also goes by the name of Blue Plumbago and Cape Plumbago. More on this shrub here.

This amazing looking insect is a Red Palm Weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus........

........which Dawn spotted on the pavement of one of the streets were walking along.. It has to be one of the most stunning beetles I have ever come across....

Sadly I don't think its chances of survival are that great as it has lost part of its right elytra, which is a beetles protective wing case. Having read up on this beetle it transpires that it is a real pest which kills palm trees. More on this beetle here.

These very small ants are Argentine ants Linepithema humile. This invasive ant can be found nesting on Ibiza's sandy beaches.

A flowering Golden Barrel Kroenleinia grusonii

These tall flowering plants are.............

.............Great Bougainvillea Bougainvillea spectabilis. It is also known as Paper Flower, Brazil Bougainvillea and Torchglow Bougainvillea. My photos show this shrub as a standard, which is pretty unusual, as this plant is actually a climbing shrub, more often seen climbing up walls and hanging from pergolas, like this one here

General Shots:

The recent storms out in the Mediterranean has seen masses of seaweed being washed up onto the beaches.

The Rio de Santa Eulalia here.

And when we arrived back at the hotel, we treated to a wonderful sunset.
